What we do at BGfm

Here at BGfm, we are extremely passionate about helping our community and providing a voice to people who may not have one. BGfm strives to involve an array of people with various abilities, helping them to come together to create something special through the power of the arts.

Our volunteers at BGfm have helped us to create a safe and happy space for others who want to get involved in all types of projects at the station. BGfm has flourished into a great tool that provides are community with various opportunities to be a part of something creative.

Interact - Sing for the Homeless Project 

This project was pre-covid 19 that took place on February the 17^th 2020, which consisted of a five day workshop providing young people with access to recording equipment, for a project of their choice. Resulting in the production of a song and creating awareness of the homeless.

For the last 6 months these young people have given up their Saturday mornings to help prepare and pack lunch boxes for the homeless. So far all the money to make the lunch boxes has been raised by them doing different varieties of fundraisers. To help these young people continue the fantastic work that they’re doing, they decided to create and produce a song to help raise awareness and also help get a donation to continue to make these lunch packs. A GO-Fund me page was set up for people to donate. All the money raised goes towards the costs of food etc...

This project was a five day event, which allowed youths from two different housing communities to come together in the studio and learn variety of skills such as, playing different instruments, how to work the sound desk and get to grips with some camera work. The project resulted in the children writing a song titled I can achieve. The children then recorded it in the studio, using lyrics that related to the topic of homelessness.

Breaking Barriers Project

Here is just one of our ongoing projects, involving people with disabilities to come together and create.

Down at BGfm radio station we are lucky to have an array of volunteers, from all walks of life. We love helping people with disabilities and uncertain back grounds to achieve their goals and break barriers, by using media and the power of music bringing people together. The picture demonstrates how BGfm provides people with a happy and productive safe space.

Featuring in these images is Gareth Barrington, assisting Daniel Wilmot to prepare his radio show. Daniel Wilmot who is Autistic and Gareth Barrington who has learning difficulties, are just a few of our lovely volunteers down at the station living with autism, they are a great example of how BGfm brings people together. Helping them to break down social barriers and become more confident, whilst collaborating to create works of art as a team.
